Welcome to another week of A Brief History of The Caribbean. Last week, we discussed the unique origins of the Amerindian people. This week we are going to discuss the Taino people in more detail.

The Caribbean is divided into two parts, the Greater and the Lesser Antilles. The Greater Antilles is considered the larger group Caribbean Islands. For example Cuba, The Bahamas, Hispanola, Jamaica etc. The Lesser Antilles are considered the smaller islands in the Caribbean. For example Curacao, St. Kitts, St Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique etc.

The Taino people inhabited the majority of the nations within the Caribbean but they were separated into two factions, The Caribs and The Arawaks.

Let us focus on each group for a bit.

This is a disclaimer. There are many similarities between the two Tiano factions. Unless I clearly state that there is a difference please be reminded that this could apply for both groups
